This guide covers the safest default messaging behavior for first outreach in Sendblue.
The 5 rules that matter most
Keep the first message conversational, not promotional.
Introduce yourself clearly so the recipient recognizes who is texting.
Split your opener into two short messages instead of one long block of text.
Do not send links or media until the recipient has responded.
Use one low-friction question early to invite a reply.
Recommended timing
Best first-response timing after opt-in: about 3 to 7 minutes.
If there is no reply, a useful default follow-up cadence is roughly 2 hours later and then the next day.
Cap unresponsive follow-ups instead of hammering the same lead repeatedly.
Why links and media should wait
Rich content before engagement is more likely to feel spammy.
Links sent too early are associated with filtering and poor response quality.
Once the contact replies, links and media fit much more naturally into the conversation.
