How to Enable Inbound Messages First in SendBlue

To allow leads to message you before you send them a message, you’ll need to enable the Inbound First setting in your SendBlue account. This can be done directly from the SendBlue dashboard or browser extension.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open Your SendBlue Dashboard

You can access this either through the SendBlue web dashboard or directly from the browser extension.

2. Go to Account Settings

  • On the left-hand menu, scroll down and click the gear icon to open the Control Panel.

  • At the top of the page, select Account.

3. Enable “Allow Inbound First”

  • Inside the Account settings, locate the Allow Inbound First option.

  • Toggle this setting ON to allow leads to message you before you message them.

What Happens After Enabling Inbound First

  • Leads can now send you messages first.

  • These messages will appear in your inbox under a default contact name (e.g., Inbound Placeholder).

  • You can manually edit and rename the contact once the message appears.

Important Considerations

Spam Risk
Enabling inbound messages may increase the number of spam messages you receive.

📊 Usage Impact

  • Each inbound message from a new contact counts toward your usage.

  • Your usage count will increase by one for every new inbound conversation.

💡 Plan for Volume
If you expect a high number of inbound messages, consider:

  • How many conversations you expect to start this way

  • Whether your current usage limit is sufficient

If needed, your usage limits can be reviewed and adjusted.

Final Notes

Once Allow Inbound First is turned on, your number will be able to receive inbound messages immediately. If you’re unsure whether this is right for your use case, consider expected message volume and spam exposure before enabling it.
